20 Tools Every Cook Needs

20  Tools Every Cook Needs

We're assuming you have a can opener, a peppermill, and a few serviceable pots and pans. Here are some other helpful items to add to your kitchen quiver if they're not there already.

Avo Saver avocado preserver ($4 gadget keeps cut avocados fresh by reducing exposure to air).

Tools Names

Bamboo cutting boards

Bamboo skewers

Blender

Carrot peeler

Cast-iron skillet

Cedar grill planks

Chef's knife, sharp and well-balanced (we like the Wusthof Classic 9inch)

Colander, large

Crock-Pot (slow cooker), 4 quart or larger

Kitchen shears

Knife sharpener

Leatherman Multi-Tool (for cracking nuts, cutting through cans, fixing broken kitchen equipment, and grabbing blueclaw crabs that have escaped)

Meat thermometer

Microplane zester (sure, a kitchen grater will work in a pinch; this will make life easier and tastier)

Salad spinner

Silicone basting brushes

Silicone cooking gloves that reach up to your elbow (much easier to use than tongs for grabbing lobsters out of a pot of hot water or steaks off the back of the grill)

The Way to Cook by Julia Child (a classic handbook of cooking techniques; just beware of the butter)

Waiter's corkscrew

Weber Charcoal Kettle Grill (gas grills are convenient, but nothing beats charcoal)
